Key Points
- Microdosing provides benefits without the high.
- Benefits include pain relief, increased creativity, and reduced anxiety.
- It’s recommended to stack with a base THC level in order to save your lungs.
The Why
Microdosing THC has gained popularity in recent years in the cannabis community. You may wonder why anyone would want to microdose THC; it seems to defeat the purpose of this recreational drug. The answer is quite simple: a lot of people want to function normally during the day while also experiencing the benefits of THC, which include pain relief, increased creativity, and reduced anxiety.
Another good reason to microdose THC is to reduce your exposure to lung problems. If some of your THC comes from edibles, you do not need to inhale as much. If you do prefer inhaling (because of its fast-acting properties), we strongly recommend using a dry herb vaporizer (not an atomizer where there is a THC liquid involved) to further minimize potential lung damage.
The How
Let’s first talk about the three dosing stages of THC.
Stage 1: Microdose Range
Typically, this is 5mg or less for newbies. This is the dose just before you feel the “head high.” Typically, the best way to get to this dose is with edibles or tinctures because it can be tricky to measure your inhales. Also, because you cannot “feel the high,” getting the right amount could be tricky. Often times, once you can feel the high, you are already outside of the microdosing range.
To keep yourself in the microdosing stage, people often set a schedule to keep their levels of THC consistent. Again, ideally, this should be in the form of edibles.
Stage 2: Therapeutic Dose
This is the sweet spot where you can really feel the “head high.” If you want to get from microdose to therapeutic dose, you can “stack” it with inhaled or other fast-acting methods to get you there. If you take another edible, calculating the right dose could be tricky. It could be inconsistent because we don’t know how much of that microdosing THC has been processed. And by the time you know it, you may have eaten too much.
If your goal is to get to this dose, we STILL recommend starting with a microdose because this is easier for your lungs. Any type of THC inhale will damage your lungs (even if you use a dry herb vaporizer). Starting with a microdose would result in around 20% fewer inhales for the same amount of THC consumption.
Stage 3: Maximum Dose
The maximum dose is real. Have you ever smoked so much weed that you don’t feel any effects anymore? Well, you’ve reached the maximum dose! This is the dose just before you don’t feel any better. We don’t recommend ever reaching this dose because it is counterproductive. You will not get any additional benefits from cannabis, but it will certainly increase your chances of experiencing negative effects, which include anxiety, paranoia, and nausea.
Most commonly, this is where people eat too many edibles because for fast-acting methods like inhales, it’s much easier to tell if you’ve had too much. For newbies, this is 20mg THC and above.
Final Thoughts
So if you are a regular cannabis user, consider adding microdosing to your routine.
In case you are wondering, applying THC creams is also considered a microdose. Unless you are applying an unusually high amount, you will not feel the effects of THC from any of our products.
